How To Save For Your Next Vacation

How To Save For Your Next Vacation

A dream vacation doesn’t happen in one day. It takes careful planning, lots of note taking and exploring various options to decide how to make your trip smooth. When it comes to going on a vacation, I am one who goes extra mile to planning months before. The reason why I do this is to ensure I save more than enough to prepare myself for it. If I do not have enough, it is pointless to embark on the journey and end up being stranded. You cannot decide to go on a journey without money and it will be foolhardy of you to start saving up for a trip few days before it.

In this post, I will be sharing some tips on how to save for your next vacation, some of which I have tried and it worked well for me.

Tip #1: Itemize All You’d Need For The Vacation and Plan Ahead

Very often, we plan for a trip without proper planning until the last minute. Effective planning helps you avoid missing important details and things that will make your trip very stress free. This includes booking your flight ahead, this helps you get cheap flights and you get to save a few cash. You can also reserved your hotels ahead should you decide on time which country or city you wish to spend your holiday. This would save you heartache of the phrase ‘fully booked’ when you finally decide to make your reservation.

Tip #2: Create a Separate Account For Your Trip

It is very important to have a separate account exclusively for your trip. Recently, I had to travel out of my current city to 2 other cities. Prior to this trip, I started saving every little extra penny I get so that my personal account doesn’t suffer much. When I was ready, I realized I had saved up to 70% of what I would need for my trip from the rough draft of what I had itemized. This was a good one as I just needed a little extra cash from my expense account to add up to this. You can use an account that does not have a credit card to avoid temptation of spending from it before the trip.

Tip #3: De-clutter Your Closet

Some months back, I figured I had so much shoes I wasn’t wearing that was occupying space in my closet. Rather than allowing these rot away, I dust them, took some good pictures and shared on my social media pages for sales. We have a lot of unused items in our space rotting away, to save a few cash for the vacation, you can clear out these items and sell them off. You can even use the proceed from these sales, depending on how much the items are, to book your flight ticket. If you are going to Dubai for instance, you can get cheap flights to Dubai if you book ahead.

Tip #4: Cut off Unnecessary Expense

If you wish to have the vacation of your dream, then this is the time to take your eyes off those fancy clothes, shoes and bags on Instagram and only shop items on sales. You will need to reduce the number of time you eat out and replace this with home made food. If you drive a car, use it less to save maintenance and fuel cost. A lot of expense that you can do away with should be reduced to the barest minimal, that way, you get to save a few extra penny to the dedicated savings account.

Tip #5: Research Your Travel Destination

A lot of times, we leave our trip itinerary to travel agents without personal research. When you are familiar with your travel and flight routes, this helps you with your planning. Would there be stop overs? What type of outfit would you need to pack? How is the weather condition during the month you plan to travel? What places would you visit when you get there? The answers to all of these questions makes it more easy to plan your vacation and know what to shop or not shop for.

Tip #6: Visualize Your Vacation

Sometimes all you need to keep you going and to encourage your saving habit is to visualize your vacation. When you have a picture of where you are going, what you need to do and all the fun you plan to have, how to save money for travel will be a piece of cake for you.

The one that’ll most likely happen with me is visualizing the vacation. It’ll help me plan to research the destination and even plan on expenses incredibly. I’ll plan for my friends too if I get a go ahead. I’m that type!

It definitely will, Faith. That way, you don’t have to be pressed for vacation expense when the time is near. There was a time I had a locked funds on Piggy Bank for vacations and travels.

Take advantage of the sights and sounds within your city. Right now I’m at Coney Island in Brooklyn, NY on the beach.
Only cost me the price of a Metro card to ride the subway here. It also helps that I live in Brooklyn.
Next month September my brother Stephen and I will visit the Coney Island Aquarium to check out the shark exhibit. Cool.

Yes. It is fun. Of course being retired helps. Today is Tuesday and I’m out here with other retirees and a few families.
