If you follow my Instagram Debwritesblog and you view my stories as well, you would realize I have another life aside being a blogger. Being a blogger is an activity I do on the side. In fact, it is more like my secondary activity. Blogger bae, Tonye, recently asked me this question and that is what have spurred this post.
Aside blogging, I have a regular 9-5 job which is more like my primary assignment as a human, lols. Whatever that means. I am first a Human Resource and Administrative Officer before I tag myself a blogger. But because I like to keep my private life private, I hardly talk about any of this. However, if you have been following this blog closely, you would realize that I do mention a bit of my corporate life here and there.
Like Tonye asked, I’m sure you may be wondering how I stay dedicated to my job and still consistent to blogging. The trick is simply time management.
Managing my Corporate Life as a Blogger
Working 9 to 5 and blogging has been fun and interesting. As much as I wish I was a full time blogger which means, I get to travel anytime of the day to events and places, documenting these activities, full time brand pitching and all those things full time bloggers do, I am glad I can find a balance between both. Being a career person is one of my ultimate goals, which is why I’d rather be both than be one. During the day, I am the HR and Admin person and at night and weekends, I become the blogger.
Most of my blog posts, I write in the taxis on my way to work or home. Once I figure out what I want to write about, I begin to scribble on my phone. Most of these ideas, I pick from my environment and conversation with people. I keep fleshing the post during these trips until I’m satisfied, then I copy on my WordPress App. During the weekends, I edit and schedule both posts. I said both posts because I share posts only on Mondays and Thursdays.
Blog Posts Promotions
For promoting these posts, I use my break time or even any free hour within work time and going home time. Sometimes, when insomnia visits like it always do, I write or promote my post and wait for people to wake up to it.
For Instagram, I use the Preview App. With this, I plan my posts ahead of time. All I need to worry about will be the caption. My Instagram is linked with my Twitter and Facebook page, which makes it easy to share a post on all 3 accounts.
For my LinkedIn accounts and Google+, each time I share a new post on the blog, it automatically goes on these accounts.
If you’ve noticed, most of my outfit posts are always too serious which means I take the pictures just before I head to work. Just as the style post I’d be sharing here. It’s a two piece from Elboogie Boutique which I have styled in 3 different ways and on different days.
However, for outfits that appears casual or less official, I just play dress up sometimes and take pictures. Or even on days, when my introvert life allow me have some fun, I use such for shoot days.
Styling A Two Piece In 3 Ways
When I first laid my eyes on this outfit, I knew I was going to style and restyle, but I was not sure how. The first time I styled, I wore it as a two piece. And then I remembered I had this blazer I have never been able to style to my satisfaction and I thought, ‘A grey and a green would be so lovely’. And I doubt I was wrong.
I was however confused on the choice of shoes to go for this first look, eventually when I left home though, I settled for a flat black shoe. Talk about a confused style blogger!
As for the top, I thought what if I wear with a skirt rather than hoping into another two legged clothing. I decided a bright colored skirt would do the magic but the pink layer underneath was clashing with my skirt color. So I tucked it in to give it another fit. And I completed the look with a brown shoe and bag because it tones down all the bright colors.
