A Trip to Kajuru Castle

A Trip to Kajuru Castle

I was at Kajuru Castle!!! A castle carved out of mountains and hidden in Kajuru town of Kaduna in Nigeria! I learnt it is owned by Germans and it is a private property.

I just couldn’t wait to share the excitement. This is a trip I have been anticipating since the beginning of this month and now that I have embarked on it and back, my wound has finally healed.

I stumbled on this on Motley Travels and Logistics Limited on Facebook. And when I learnt we were going by train, my excitement and curiosity intensified as I have been longing to try the new rail line even if it means me just going and coming back immediately.

We converged at the Idu train station as we were going as a group of tourists. This was one of my highlight on the trip.

We started off at 7:05 and stopped at 4 different train stations which are Kubwa at Abuja, Jere, Rijana and Rigasa- last stop. We arrived at Rigasa Station at 9:35 am.

During the trip, one of the tourist proposed to his girlfriend during the train ride. The train ride was a total fun ride. There was a DJ that kept us going with all mix of jam. And after the proposal, a saxophonist began playing. It was such a romantic moments for us all and we were awed. We were served breakfast on the journey and it was such a memorable experience. The cabins were air conditioned and quite neat.

When we arrived at the station, a number of buses were waiting for us to take us to Kajuru Castle. That was the exhausting part for me. It took us roughly two hours from the train station to the castle with stops in between considering we were traveling in 3 buses and as a group.

I really wish the train stop was closer to town or is it the Kajuru Castle is so way out of town? Whichever be the case, get ready for that when you make up your mind to visit.

We finally sighted the Kajuru Castle and everyone heaved a deep sigh of relief. It was indeed a beauty to behold!

The road up the Castle, darlings, is not for the faint hearedt. There’s a pool in there, guest towers with rooms looking like dungeons. I also sighted crocodiles close to the gate but fear wouldn’t allow me take pictures as I couldn’t even go close. I am not a fan of reptiles.

We went hiking and I enjoyed every part of it. Although, in between we had to cross a gut and I was undoubtedly scared and someone had to pull me over.

After the hiking, I got for myself a plate of pounded yam and egusi with drinks that were not cold. I did not like that part. Thank God I went with chilled drinks. There was swimming competition and other personal activities for people that came as a group.

It was all round fun except for the return. We got to the station late and the train was almost filled up. Some people had no seat to themselves and it was a sore sight. They had to stand all the way back to Abuja and we had no cabin to ourselves unlike the departure.

The railway corporation need to know when to stop selling tickets when they realized they have reach the maximum number of people the train can carry.

All in all, I had fun and it was beautiful exploring nature and visiting another part of my country.

P.S: MTN has no network there. So if you are addicted to your phone and internet service like me, don’t even think of spending a night there. Except you can get a glo sim or mifi.

Have you ever traveled within Nigeria or to Kajuru Castle? What’s your thoughts on the castle?
