Restyling A Vintage Dress: Casual Sporty to a Classy Look

Restyling A Vintage Dress: Casual Sporty to a Classy Look

Vintage clothing can be haute couture or quality mainstream fashion labels; it can be used, new, manufactured, or handmade.

When I hear Vintage dress or clothing, I first think of used clothes, retro clothes or just clothes from the past. A lot of times, vintage clothing could just mean what the speaker intends it to mean.

The amazing part about wearing a vintage dress is its fluidity. You can decide to style it like past trends or era or mix it with contemporary pieces to reflect a modern look.

Whenever I’m out getting any new clothes, I’m thinking of one other million ways I can restyle them. I hate boring outfits and boring outfits for me are clothes I can only style in one way or wear in a certain way. On days I am really free, you’d find me in front of my mirror trying several pieces to see which one fits best.

I am of the opinion that a piece of clothing should be versatile that it can easily be switched up easily depending on where one is going to turn up. For me, I love outfits that can easily be incorporated into work, church and social events.

That way, while I’m de-cluttering my closet of too many pieces, I am as well saving money by buying less clothing that can be styled for several occasions.

I’ve been following the minimalist style trend for a while now and I’ve been loving how people get to style simple outfits and make them look so unusual.

The Simple Sporty Look

When I got this black dress from , I was excited as it was the first black vintage dress I’m getting. At first, I wanted to style it in a retro ’80s look with some boots. But then, that’s not my style, I sort of tend towards this classic styles. You’d always find me more on dresses and skirts than wearing boots or sneakers. Hence, I thought why not try something a bit different.

This looks can be incorporated into your weekend casual look. It can be styled to dates with your girls, picnics, movie date or errand runs.

Dinner or Events Vintage Style

The last time I ever owned a wrap skirt was as far back as when I was 10. It was a gift from my dad and I wore that skirt till it got so old and torn. Ever since, I haven’t owned a wrap skirt. It was no wonder I jumped at it when I saw it on  page.

I wasn’t sure how I’d style it when I bought it but I knew I was going to make it versatile that it can fit into any outing.

For a dinner date, movie date or casual events, I’d sure wear this outfit to it. I had only switched my shoes and wore the wrap skirt on the vintage dress. See there was no worry trying to find another top to fit. I just made it look more chic with the strappy sandal and a handy purse to match the look.

To make it decent, depending on where I am wearing it to, I just need to pin the slit a bit with a safety pin or just be conscious of not allowing the slit be obvious as it is in the picture below.

Tell Me Where You’d Style This Look To

For me, I’d likely wear this third style to work on a Friday, to a church event, or a corporate casual event. Where would you wear it to?

There are some events that would require you to cover up, either because of the temperature of the room, the weather condition or just because of the type of event it is. In such case, this look will come through for you. You can decide to even remove the skirt and you’d still pass for a decent classy look.

The wrap skirt is everything. Wow!
I find myself pairing clothes differently from the last time I’d have worn it. A cloth’s fluidity is styles with other clothes is really what that matters to me.

Like I’ve paired a blouse with pleated skirt, straight skirt, pencil pants and over a dress to work. Every time you’d think it’s a new outfit I have on, especially with different accessories or lipstick on.

Accessories and make up can switch up an outfit from 0-100 super quick. I do this so often even within the same week and people would still not know.

Thanks for leaving a thought, Oluchi.
