Nigerian Brands are gradually saturating the Nigeria Fashion industry with locally made fashion pieces. Prior to this time, most fashion brands would prefer to retail foreign pieces. However, in recent times, they now source for home made fabrics and design to suit the Nigeria fashion scene. When the campaign for supporting Nigerian Brands started, a lot of people were a bit skeptical about the quality of these pieces. Personally, I wouldn’t mind until fashion designers and brands started disappointing me. It’s either you pay so much and get less quality fabrics or pay a bit less with terrible finishing.
Hence, I told myself I was going to stick to buying foreign outfits that I can be guaranteed on my money worth. However, as a blogger, everyday you are exposed to various opportunities and brands. It was on one of such opportunities I stumbled on Tgjonah Instagram page. I realized she’s an online Nigeria brand that makes quality work wear for the contemporary corporate woman. It offers a wide variety of products ranging from high street branded items to its own design.
Aside the size of my pocket, I was always skeptical about online shopping. Most of my online buys are either a size bigger or smaller. As a result of this, I prefer buying clothes or shoes in physical stores so I can try them on before purchasing.

I have had my fair share of terrible services with made in Nigeria Brands, which is why I’m writing this post to address this.
#1: Focus on quality
A lot of brands compromise quality to meet the needs of their customers. While this is understandable, it is important to make quality your watchword. A lot of customers never return because of alarming quality of the finished product you serve them. When I got my blogger mail, I was amazed at the quality of the fabric. It wasn’t like the usual cheap stretchy outfit that would end up with holes in them.
#2: Customer Service
Is this a Nigerian thing or a general thing? I have shopped with online foreign brands and their customer services has been superb. I’m certain they only put their best hands to handle their social media pages or could it be the output of quality training? Or how else would you explain their patience and efficiency. I’ve canceled a lot of orders because of how Nigerian Brands operate and I wonder if they even realized they lost a customer or not.
Another saddest part of this is when customer complain about what they’ve received compared to what they requested for, some sellers go as far as blocking them or blatantly refuse to offer any solution.It's not like everyone that patronizes a fashion brand in Nigeria has a fat pocket. Point #1 has a whole lot to do with this. It’s interesting that Nigerian brands wants to sell their products for the same amount I would get it from high street brands. While I understand that the cost of production could be alarming, I think some of these brands are selling names or trying to use their price to make them appear competitive. If a local no-name designer can make the same dress you are making for a cheaper price and with the same fabrics, why should you inflate your price when you can still make more profit if you sell lesser? Or why should I even patronize you to start with?
This made me worry on the question, ‘Would you really support a Made In Nigeria Brand who is overpriced or stick to your foreign brands?”
A lot of brands have retained their customers because of affordability. Focus on good quality, get your cost price inclusive of all expenses incurred and add up a reasonable profit, and then sell off. What’s the point of keeping an outfit or shoe for so long just because you want to prove you are a top notch brand with your price, rather than selling off about 10 pieces or more in a month and making even more profit?
