Denim on denim trend has been on the roll for a long time. We have watched celebs and style bloggers recreated this look consistently and each time, there’s always a new vibe. A denim piece is an essential in every human closet, both male and female. It’s such a piece of clothing that can transform you from basic, chic to classy by just styling it with accessories. Hence, I decided to collaborate with fellow style bloggers in Abuja to recreate the trend.
The beauty of a collaboration is that everyone’s personality isn’t the same. This gives us different vibes and ways to show our audience how this look can be worn. I collaborated with PrincessAudu, whom I have collaborated with on how to style a palazzo pant. And also Opeyemisdiary, my new blogger babe and African Prints fashionista.
How to Spice up your Denim on Denim
Accessorizing is the ultimate hack when it comes to styling basic pieces. It can help you transform any look into a classy look. In this shoot, I wore this denim dress as a top and styled it with a denim skirt I had had for over 7 months but never worn before. After styling before the shoot, I realized how very basic it looked and my waist was all over the place. I decided to accentuate my waist with a belt and add a sort of edgy look with the scarf.
To complete the look, I opted for this fringe shoes and thrift LV bag to match the look and threw in my afro wig. Did you see how the belt, shoe and bag switched up the look?
#2: Mix Your Two Shades of Denim
My own shades is quite similar and can easily pass for a dress, hence, I can be excused. But Opeyemi decided to add a twist by wearing two shades of denim. This is a great tip when styling this trend. The darker shade will give you a slimmer effect while the lighter wash draws attention to body areas they cover. I also love how she accessorize her fit with a snake print waist purse to draw attention away from her oversize jacket.
#3: Go Western With Your Style
Princess Audu decided to gives us the flirty casual date look with her style. She wore a dress backwards as a top and paired it with a retro jean and completed the look with a strap sandals. This look can fit into any kind of casual outing and with a jean jacket, give her some sort of urban vibe.
#4: Avoid Denim Accessories
While accessories are great when styling this trend, it is very important to avoid items like a denim bag, neck piece, belt, or shoe. This would give you a total off the look kind of vibe.
Which of the look can you relate with or which one speaks your style language?
