Dating a Writer

Dating a Writer

There’s no better joy than when your writings are appreciated or when someone can actually refer to a line of your midnight musings and say, ‘Oh that part made me feel so special.’

The beauty of art is in appreciation.

I was having this thought about the beauty of a  writer dating a writer the other night, and I tried searching for pictures that fit this. I was really shocked when I saw loads of pros and cons about the benefit and pain of dating a writer.

And then my blogger sister, ms_dhk of  did much justice to this topic with her post on . The suspense in this post and word use is 100%. I was so glued to my phone screen until I finished reading. Well done, Ms Diamond.

In my own perspective, I feel it is a blessing. This particular picture really got to me. Who are the people that come up with these stuffs sef?…lolssss

A writer would definitely need a muse. It could be anybody or anything. Your relationship with them makes you a ready made muse. That doesn’t mean you are a material or specimen to be dissected for daily analysis. It only shows how well appreciated you are to have been infused into art. Except of course you are presented in a bad light, otherwise…you have no case.

While I was an undergraduate, I had this notebook I write my thought on almost on a daily. I never thought of blogging then and that was my own ‘personal blog’. My bobo was my personal muse. Whenever we have a fight, I write. When we are happy, I write. When we pass or fail an exam, I write. But the annoying thing then was, he doesn’t seem as excited as I was whenever I read it to him. That makes me feel like whatever I have written is junks. So most times, I just scribble these words and put them underneath the bed.

Until a fellow female writer picked it up one fateful day and was amazed at the beauty of my words. She could connect with every line and would even tell me the situation that must have given room for the words. You can imagine my joy and happiness. And after that day, I resumed my writing with so much vigor damning his reaction towards them. (I’d try to share some of these in future posts)

The most wonderful part of this is when a writer dates/marry a writer…sweet Jesus…their home would be filled with quotes and heart renderings hung on the wall as a portrait sharing every moment in the most beautiful, carefully selected words.

So I think every writer should give the choice of dating a writer a thought. Not necessarily though but I think it is a beautiful idea if you find one you love…

What do you think?

    Interesting Topic

i want to relate with this part “My bobo was my personal muse. Whenever we have a fight, I write. When we are happy, I write. When we pass or fail an exam, I write. But the annoying thing then was, he doesn’t seem as excited as I was whenever I read it to him. That makes me feel like whatever I have written is junks. So most times, I just scribble these words and put them underneath the bed.”

I relate well and know the feeling when your writing is not being appreciated by the one you love…… terrible when you are not being appreciated, kills muse and morale…

Regarding this “The most wonderful part of this is when a writer dates/marry a writer…sweet Jesus…their home would be filled with quotes and heart renderings hung on the wall as a portrait sharing every moment in the most beautiful, carefully selected words.”….. I can imagine….

    Hi Deb,

I think there are definitely pros and cons. If you think alike, you can really connect deeply with another writer. I find people who are good with expressing themselves with words very attractive. The bad side is, they could be quite over analytical and critical (not just of things in life, but maybe of your writing style and choice of words, especially if they think they are better at writing), which all writers tend towards being.

Also, you could both find yourselves in your heads a lot, and not actually connecting in real life, but in your mental exercises, debates, complaints etc. If you can handle that, and thrive off the sharing of ideas and bonding over mutual experience and understanding, then dating a writer would be a great idea. But if you are strongly opinionated, neurotic in your analysis of pretty much everything or tend to be prolific with writing, so that it consumes much of your brain space, you could probably do with someone to lighten you up and bring you back to Earth now and again!

    My two cents 🙂

Ps: My husband isn’t a writer, and I haven’t decided if that’s a good thing. But he reads my pieces and enjoys some of them. I would appreciate more bonding over it, but I think if he was a big writer too or as opinionated as me, we may not get on so well.

    Cheers, Ufuoma.

Awww, thanks so much for the comment. I agree with the points raised above. And I never knew you were married? Glad to learn something about how you…

P.S. ‘Bobo’ isn’t a writer too but he’s my biggest fan and follower. Most times, he disagrees with my opinion but then we always find a common ground we agree on eventually.

Yeah… we all need someone in our lives who disagrees with us! Nice to know you.

Oh my God! Where have you been all my life? Just going through your blog posts today and I have to say I’m in love. This post is something I can relate to. Relationships can bring out some sides in writers that wouldn’t have come out on a better day. However it can be good or not depending on how the partner sees it but to the writer, it would be good.

I’m a writer and my bf is one too. Although he’s not into it as deep as I am, it’s still fun dating someone who u can relate with on that level. Nice one sis, really love the post.
