African prints popularly know as Ankara has gradually gone from the conventional church and party wears to becoming a fashion staple that can be worn to work.
Over the years, a lot of fashion bloggers like Princess Audu have styled this print to work and it has really grown to become one of the trending work wears. For me, I love its versatility and how you can incorporate it in different ways to work.
It’s best rocked for work if well styled with a good pair of shoes and a good handbag to go. I extremely love to wear Ankara to work because I get to own my fabric, design and style it my own way.
Which is why you home girl has her first collaboration with this beautiful fashion blogger YhItsChioma on how to style Ankara into the corporate life.
You can ditch the formal shirts and pants and decide to wear Ankara to work, formal meetings, seminars, and corporate events.
Beautiful Embellished Collar Dress from
Our First Look
For our first look, Chioma chooses to pair an off-shoulder crop top on an ankle length skirt with a purple pump. I couldn’t believe I could pull an Ankara off shoulder to work until I saw Chioma did this. I am so stealing this style.
On the other hand, I wore this ball dress that was made by . I was so confused on the choice of pair of shoes as I wanted something that will stand out and still match my dress. Hence the choice of color for the orange shoes.
Tip #1 To Styling Ankara to Work: Accessorize
Every fashion items need good accessories to match to make it fit. Spot my tiny belt to make the dress fit perfectly on my tummy. And Chioma styled hers perfectly with a smart portfolio bag.
Tip #2: Your Choice of Shoes
Never forget that you need those beautiful shoes to complete the magic.
The right color of a lovely pair of footwear will always do wonders. Nothing beats a good pair of shoes. And when you style with the right shoes, you can boss into any room and stand out.
Our Second Look
For our second look, while I decided to go for this Ankara pants and a kimono, Chioma chooses a white silk top to match her pant. And to think we never planned the choice of outfit goes a long way to say an ankara pant is extremely versatile and can be worn in various ways. However you choose to style yours is totally up to you.
As simple as it looks, you may have passed a number of people before they’d realize it’s an African prints you are wearing.

Tip #3: Match With Modern Wears
Always match with modern wears. When you can easily style your Ankara with modern wear, it will be hard to tell you are wearing one.
While being smart in your lovely pumps, wear a beautiful smile. It’s the greatest accessory you can own.
Which of these looks would you prefer? Are you a fan of styling Ankara to Work? How would you style yours? Where else would you style this look to?

Hi Benita, yes you should change your mind already. All you just need to do is to style it like you are styling your regular corporate wears.
Interestingly, Church is where all my Aso Ebi laces go to, you know those ones you can’t always wear anywhere else. So I always leave Ankara for work.
Thanks for stopping by dear,
