WHAT IS BRANDING?
Branding is an essential key to a successful blog growth. Every blogger has its own unique niche. However some bloggers only venture into starting up without having any long term goal but just because others are blogging.
Blogging for me started as a way to reaching out with other writers, sharing my experience and connecting with people who have experienced same and sharing a host of other things especially my musings. Little did I know that blogging goes beyond writing. Your blog name is your brand, your identity and your trademark. What you stand for is what readily comes to the mind of people when they hear your brand name. Branding your blog to your style and taste is what makes you different.
When I read some blog excerpts, I can immediately reference a blogger or two who must have written it. That goes to say their brand has been imprinted in my heart.
I was just flowing with the tide of being a writer/blogger without so much knowledge on the essence of branding and networking until I attended The Blogger’s Point Brunch. It was hosted on 27th of August, 2017 at Laguna Lounge. I have been in Abuja for a while and how I missed this beautiful lounge with the perfect ambiance still beats me.
Being the shy introverted person I am, it was a bit difficult for me to network with fellow blogger until I told myself I needed to loosen up a bit and enjoy this brunch to the fullest and make sure I network.
There were lots of beautiful and amazing blogger there. 90% of the attendees, I met for the first time at the event and networking with them was so much fun.
And when we had the short seminar, my mind was open to quite a number of lessons I should have learnt before now with respect to being a blogger.
1. Your blog is your brand. It is a representative of who you are.
Take your blog serious. What you put out there is what define you before people meet you. Stop doing what others are doing. Do you!
2. Networking is a great way to grow as a blogger.
Don’t be too comfortable with being in the same spot and around the same old people you know. Connect with other bloggers, grow your network, and learn from their downsides too. Networking is not limited to attending events, it goes to leaving posts and comments on other blogger’s posts and social media. You can also take lessons from B-listers who have similar niche as yours.

3. As a blogger, you are a professional.
Don’t limit yourself to being an amateur. When trying to work with other brands, project yourself as a professional. Project yourself as one especially when you have to work with other brands.

Using Guest Posting is also another way to network
- Find a blog in a similar niche.I see a lot of bloggers who want to submit their post to a high traffic site even though it is in a completely different niche. Big mistake. Even if you get some traffic from it, chances are that they will have little interest in your topic. There is no point to driving traffic to your blog if nobody wants to read it or opt in to your newsletter.
- Interact with those who comment on your guest post. Don’t just reply with a “thanks for the comment”, ask them questions and get them talking to each other, that’s how you will get them to come to your blog and become your readers too.

5. Brand, Invest and Rebrand your blog.
Don’t be afraid to invest in your blog. It shows how serious you are. And from time to time rebrand yourself. Figure out what you are doing wrong and fix it,what posts gets more traffic on your blog, and what do your readers love most about you. I will be sharing a blog post on lessons I wish I had known before I started blogging.
Lastly, be original. Originality is the key to a successful brand or blog. Once you lose this touch, it will cost you so much.
I took a whole lot of pictures that day and met too many pretty amazing bloggers. Take a look:
The amazing Leemah
The make up guru herself,
With Demi Akin of High Street Mania
And goody bag! I almost forgot to add that, take a peep into my goody bag. Unfortunately, I was too eager to use my facemask that I forgot to take a picture of it. I would patronize the sponsors again and share a review on the blog.
