I really miss public transport shenanigans. It has come to become my source of biggest inspiration. Or let’s say most time my introvert nature will make me plug my ears listening to the loudest music and ignoring every other person in the car.
But this morning, I couldn’t help but pause my music as every other person attention was focused on that lady struggling to pull down her really short dress.
As I watch her struggle, my first thought was where is she coming from and where is she going dressed like that on a Tuesday morning. The dress is actually decent except for the length and that dress is really pretty. I wish I could own it, perfect for those girl’s hangout.
I can really get carried away when writing. So back to the gist. Why leave home wearing something you are not comfortable with? The only excuse I could make for her was that she went out in a friend’s car last night and thought to return home yesterday. Unfortunately, she was stuck there last night with little or no cash. And she had to use a public transport today.
But really, how short is a short dress? I have had my own moments too with wearing really short outfits. Mine has mostly been because of silly reasons and I always end up regretting it a little too late.
I remember one of my recent experiences where I wore a really short black dress on a black panty hose. I dunno how I got to my destination in one piece. Even the bike men screamed some incoherent hurting remarks and I told myself I am never going to wear that outfit out to a public place again.
Unfortunately, I forgot to take a full picture on that day. Fancy me thinking the panty hose is compensation for the exposed skin. I must have been really wrong.
Seems the hose was more like an abomination than a solution! And to think I was even wearing a print Kimono on it. That did not even attempt to be a consolation.
I think generally, people are particular about who is wearing what and what you are wearing; your body size and all.So I have come to learn that some outfits are not just decent enough for public glare. If you do not own a car yet or do not have a standby Uber, stick to your jean when going to places that involves uncivilized crowds.
Except it’s a party, hangout, malls and the likes, leave that really short dress hanging in your closet until you are certain you won’t struggle trying to pull it down in public. I think the fact that you are struggling to pull it down is the part that get the people more angry. But really, is it their body???

Yup, u got that right. It’s usually the uncivilized crowd that hurls insults at scantily dressed ladies. I recently saw a clip where a thick model with some real ass on her stopped traffic in Lekki Cuz she was having a photoshoot. Guess what? She had on just her undies, or perhaps it was a bikini (whatev… All the same to us Nigerians).. My point is, people actually stopped and no one acted like a goof in the clip. And this was Nigeria. But, alas, this was Lekki. Most people there are civilized.

Wow! That must be a scene…
It’s really becoming an expectation for ladies’ these day to get embarrassed when people can’t seem to understand their choice of outfit.
Thanks for stopping by, Alex ?
lol I saw the same clip. My struggle is never with shorts anyway, most times I get into trouble cus of my hijab. Like people stare at me strangely or throw shady remarks wen dey

Are you kidding me? Even on hijab? People just seem to always have their own opinion about others choice of dressing whichever way we choose to look. I have come to believe that, “Whatever you are comfortable on, wear it. If you are not, don’t”
Wen I wear hijab with trousers or maybe a snug dress. And cus I’m really busty, dt seem to b a problem sometimes.
Ok first off, I’m really in love with your blog right now….like I’m literally drooling. So back to what brought me to the comment box..I’ve had really embarrassing moments with short outfits. What made mine worse was the fact that it was a flare gown. So asides from being short, the wind had a swell time making mockery of my condition. People stared as I tried to keep my overly excited gown down from being blown up by the wind

?? I would have laughed too ?? Thanks for the awesome comment darling. Really appreciate ? By the way, it was designed by me ?
“How short is a short dress?” is akin to saying “how much flesh are you revealing?” I believe decent dressing (a term that some might argue as subjective) will likely save a lady from public embarrassment, sexual harassment, etc.

I quite agree with you. Only that many of us defines this differently to suit our purpose.
