Just before you quit that job…

Recently, I’ve been reading so much articles about why people shouldn’t remain slaves to others forever…Why you should be your own boss and be self employed…Why you should take up your own passion, develop it and become an entrepreneur.

As beautiful as this idea sound, do you agree that not everyone has been created to fulfill this entrepreneur mandate? Not everyone is designed to be successful at this no matter how much of their best they put in.

The other day, I was having this convo with bobo and I said, “Do you know most of the people that thrive in this clothe selling business have cliques?” I was surprised he agreed with me because he’s of the opinion too that everyone should have a side hustle aside the usual 9-5…some reasons why I love that man ? always realistic…okay, let’s go back to this blog post.

I told him that for someone like me who doesn’t believe in cliques and can count my friends on one hand, I’d need to do a lot of marketing, convincing and talks to get customers unlike someone who had cliques. These cliques know people who know people and that web of friends who wouldn’t mind spending all their life savings to look good. This person doesn’t even need too much talk, her friends will help do the needful and before you know it, everyone will want to associate with her brand.

It’s logic.

That doesn’t mean I won’t thrive too but mine may take time and the grace of God, as my religious people will say?

What am I trying to say?? Just before you quit that job because you feel being your own boss is a better choice, why don’t you explore this new business line first for a while. Do your market survey, start it before you quit that your current 9-5 job.

Don’t just quit your current job and then after a few months you begin to complain when sales do not come in the way you anticipated.

I know a number of people who quit to start their own business and today the business no longer exists. Getting another job is always difficult for anyone!

Not everyone is cut for this kinda life. When we look at it from the outside, we envy entrepreneurs but trust me they have their own downside. They sometimes envy you that have a steady source of income and I’m sure they sometimes wish they have both. They have moments they are broke, moments they wish they were not self employed and can take some loan from their salary or even know they have a salary they’d definitely get at the end of the month, moments they wish they are already an household name too.

Being a successful entrepreneur takes patience, time and hard work. So while you are considering quitting your job and becoming an entrepreneur, you may need to weigh your options and decide how you want to do this.

Is it the best time for you to start?

What do you need to take into consideration?

Should you stick to online sales?

Should you proceed to get a store yet?

Who are your target customers?

How do you create a brand they’d love to associate with?
